LESSON

Disciple: In today’s scripture reading, why does the book of Matthew begin with the hard-to-pronounce names of the ancestors of Jesus?  Some people may try to read this and give up.

Servant: Family background is important to Jewish people.  Their long-awaited leader, called Messiah, was to come from the family of King David.  In Acts 2:30 it says that God told King David that “… He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne.”

D:  The conception of Jesus by the Holy Spirit is hard for me to understand.

S:  Joseph, Mary’s future husband, was also perplexed until an angel of the Lord explained it to him in verses 20 & 21.

D:  Didn’t a prophet predict it?

S: Yes, about 600 years earlier, Isaiah said, “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son and they shall call His name Immanuel.”  (Isaiah 7:14)

D:  Immanuel means, God With Us”.  This is getting interesting.

S:  You’re going to love reading the Bible.

D:  What is 12 end times disciples for Jesus?

S:  I’ll tell you but first, “May I ask you a question?”

D:  Sure.

S: How many disciples have you made for Jesus?

D:  None.  Why?

S:  Jesus tells us to “…make disciples…” for Him.  (Great Commission, Matthew 28:18-20).

D:  Sounds impossible.  Will 12 for Jesus help us make disciples for Jesus?

S:  The 12 for Jesus end times discipleship training will help you mature spiritually so you can make 12 disciples for Jesus who do likewise.

D:  Please excuse my asking, but what’s in this for me?

S:  Rewards.  Jesus says in Revelation 22:12, “…I will reward everyone for what they have done.”

D:  Good.  What is the 12 for Jesus training?

S: It’s only 12 minutes/day for 12 months.

D:  Anything else?

S:  Your end times discipleship family gathers weekly so everyone can share what they learned.

D:  Makes sense.  Please explain this Disciple (D) & Servant (S) format.

S:  The Disciple (D) represents a new believer and the Servant (S) represents a mature, disciple-making follower of Jesus.

D:  I understand.  This is going to be an adventure.

S:  You’re right. You’ll discover priceless treasures as we explore the Bible together.
